Calligraphy Crafternoon

A couple of months ago, I attended a Calligraphy Crafternoon at Pipino, in Teacher's Village. A crafternoon (craft + afternoon) as the name suggests, is a couple of hours spent making and learning new art with other artsy people!

For a couple hundred pesos, the kit included a pen holder, 2 nibs (I didn't know that's what you call the tips), ink, sheets of paper, and worksheets.

Photoshoot: Backyard Holi

It all started with these vague texts from our friend Kats, inviting us to her place, one afternoon in August. She wouldn't tell us what we were going to do, but instead kept sending us cryptic messages and clues in Facebook. We all tried guessing what it was but I don't think anyone came close.

Surprise, surprise! She had everything ready when we arrived that day. It was a photoshoot! --with colored chalk, and water, that was bound to get messy. And oh, and a huge rainbow umbrella too.

She got the idea from Hindu's Holi Festival, wherein people throw colored powder to welcome spring's abundant colors, and bid winter a farewell. Also, it commemorates events in Hindu mythology. Not that anyone of us were practicing Hinduism, it was just such a cool idea to capture the effect of chalk and water on still photos.

Ang Nawawala (Cinemalaya 2012)

ANG NAWAWALA (What Isn't There) by Marie Jamora

"You like your men the way you like your comic books. With a lot of issues."

The story revolves around Gibson (Dominic Roco), a seemingly normal guy who has a camera permanently attached to his hand, taking photos and videos. But his biggest oddity is, he doesn't speak, at all. He isn't deaf, isn't mute. He just chose not to talk, after witnessing a tragic accident in his childhood, which effect is also prominent in the tension looming over his family. Just coming home from the States for the holidays, he meets the charming Enid (Annicka Dolonius), and suddenly finds himself falling in love.

Bookworm Diaries: Book Swap and Book Ukay at Maginhawa

It's always the spontaneous invites that get honored, haha. A friend of mine texted out of the blue and asked me to go with her to the Moonleaf Tea Shop Book Swap event.

Dog in the City No. 1

Thanks to Sab, this blog is still alive!

I haven't posted anything (or even thought of anything worth posting) ever since this blog started.
I feel guilty because the whole point of this blog, is to have time for art. But I've been too busy with serious stuff, that cute things were unwillingly set aside. Well that, and the fact that I am nothing if not motivated! So to set a goal for myself, I'm starting (and will try my best to finish) a little coffee book project about the two things that never fail to make me say, 'Aww' and 'Ohh'. My dog and great buildings.

So where is my dog now?

288,000 jelly beans -- for ART!

With a wide array of flavors (and colors!), who doesn't love Jelly Beans? But Kina Grannis put these colorful candies to use in the stop-motion video of her song,  In Your Arms. The three-minute video plays with a background animation made with 288, 000 jelly beans which was made in a span of 22 months. Ahhh-mazing!

PS. Her other videos are just as creative! Search for Valentine, and Without Me :)

How To Be An Explorer of the World: Portable Life Museum

As we have said in our post, Keep the Creative Juice Flowing, exploring and keeping your eyes open to different things help in stimulating the imagination. Being creative doesn't need a specific time or a special place, it can be done anytime and anywhere!

How To Be An Explorer of the World: Portable Life Museum by Keri Smith is an interactive book that lists 59 ideas, activities and experiments on how to explore and see the world in a different perspective. The book encourages people to find patterns, textures, and observe details that we tend to overlook because of familiarity. It also promotes its readers to collect things and make their own museum of things and ideas.

Hello Sailor!

Hello, Sailor! is an exhibit we went to last month in CubaoX. In collaboration with Heima Home and Lifestyle Furniture, artists Soleil Ignacio and Tokwa Penaflorida presented their watercolor paintings of water-dwelling creatures.

A painting on a huge piece of canvas! (See the time lapse video on how they did this at the end of the post :))

Quietest and Most Constant of Friends

they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors,
and the most patient of teachers."
